High School GUM (Grammar, Usage, Mechanics) allows students to strengthen their foundation writing skills at a level that recognizes their maturity. Relevant themes give high school students something good to “chew on” while they learn good writing skills. The course teaches the basic building blocks of writing:
Grammar: the parts of speech, parts of a sentence, phrases, clauses, and agreement
Usage: verbs, pronouns and modifiers
Mechanics: capitalization, punctuation and spelling - This course is no longer open for new enrollments. Try HS Mechanics instead.

High School Paragraphs allows students to strengthen their foundation writing skills at a level that recognizes their maturity. The course teaches the basic building blocks of writing: the parts of and the different types of sentences within the structure of a paragraph. Four different kinds of paragraphs are explored: narrative, descriptive, expository and persuasive. - Cost: $99.00
The Essay Writing course will explore the essay writing process from the prewriting stage to the revision stage.Students will work weekly practicing and mastering each step of the writing process before moving onto the next step.The curriculum will be personalized by qualified and caring writing partners to each student’s ability.
This course will prepare students for writing essays for school assignments.
